I’m making obscene noises, but I don’t care. It’s just too good. It’s like we each had the perfect addition to make the oatmeal right for both of us. It’s warm and satisfying. I lean back and he pours some milk into the lid of his thermos. He hands it over and I sip.

“Mmmm…that’s so good.” I take my last bite of the oatmeal.

He pulls a water from his backpack and takes a long drink before handing it over.

We clean up and then return to the mats, our backs resting against a large chest. We talk about big things—the environment and politics—we agree on most things, but not all, and that’s good. I like debating with him. He has a worldly view and I have an academic one with my degrees in history and women’s studies. But I don’t use either in my career. We talk about small things—how pistachios are gross—he agrees, how cats are smarter than dogs—we agree to disagree, and how oatmeal might now be our favorite food. Agreed.

The fire starts to dwindle, and I lean forward grabbing a small log and using the towel, open the door handle and put it in. He sits aback and watches me. I like that he doesn’t feel like he has to be doing everything.

The room brightens as the glass window on the stove glows.

I sit back and I grimace. “Oh…that’s not good.”

Mack straightens his back. “What’s wrong?”

“I forgot about the bird pecking my ass.”

He chuckles but stills. “Can I take a look?”

I turn around and slowly lower the sweatpants and my underwear. Showing him my buttcheeks.

“I’m going to touch you, Sunny.” His warm fingers brush my skin and I close my eyes to enjoy every sensation. His calloused fingertips stop in one area. “Yeah, that bird got you, good, too. I’m sorry I forgot to check you.”

I glance back over my shoulder. “It’s okay. How bad is it?”

“I’ll clean it and cover the spot, probably doesn’t need a stitch, but it’s a little deeper than mine. And it’s basically caused your underwear to be bloody, probably should take them off.”

I shiver.

“You cold?” he asks as he cleans the spot.

“No…”

He works quickly, but I almost want him to take his time. “Okay, sweetheart, I’ll turn my back and let you get that underwear off.”

I pull on his shoulder to turn him back. “No. I want you to see me, Mack. All of me.” I want to let this man into my world and I want to climb into his.

I lean toward him and he meets me in the middle with a soft kiss. This is it. I slip the underwear and sweatpants down my legs and off. I unzip my hoodie and let it drop down my arms.

“Fuck…you’re beautiful. Every inch, perfect.”

“I want to be with you, Mack. We just have to go slow.”

“Sweetheart, if you tell me anything hurts, I will stop. I don’t care what’s happening. I will do anything to make sure this is pleasurable and a memorable experience for you.
